WHY ARE WAXES AND BUTTERS IN NATURAL SKIN CARE PRODUCTS?

Posted by on

It's common for people to think of candles when the word "wax" is mentioned, so it's no wonder that including wax in skin/body care products doesn't sound too appealing to them. But I assure you that the waxes we use in our body and skin care products are a far cry from candle wax.

Here are some of the commonly used waxes that make our products so luxurious and soothing:

CARNAUBA WAX comes from a Brazilian tree. It is compatible with all vegetable and mineral waxes and is used in many cosmetics, primarily lipsticks.

SHEA BUTTER comes from the Mangifolia tree that grows in central Africa. Tests show that it produces high levels of protection from the sun's UV rays, thus preventing sunburn. Shea butter also contains linoleic acid, which is ideal for soothing dry or irritated skin.

COCOA BUTTER is a natural fat expressed from roasted cacao beans. It is used as a lubricant and emollient base and serves to soften and protect skin.

MANGO BUTTER derives from mango seeds. It is an excellent emolient that provides a natural sunscreen effect. It also seals in moisture to keep the skin soft and supple.

BEESWAX is obtained from the honeycomb and is used as an emollient, thickener, and emulsifier.
